What’s in your nappy bag?

I’m not sure about you but my handbag tripled in size when I became a mother and 8 years later I’m still using an oversized bag that I cart around each time we leave the house. Ask any woman what “must have” items she carrier in her bag and she’s bound to reply with answers as long as a small child’s Christmas wish list and that usually doubles when you add a baby in her life! I think a better question would be “what’s NOT in your nappy bag”.

I just Love my Vanchi and Storksak Nappy bags and I’m regularly changing between the two as they have so many pockets to keep all of your items organised. I also prefer the look of a handbag rather than a “nappy” bag. What kind of nappy bag do you have?

As a general guide here are some of the typical items you’ll need:
•nappies (at least 3)
• barrier cream and/or powder
• portable change mat
• tissues
• wipes (small travel pack)
• sanitising lotion for your hands
• plastic nappy disposal bags or ‘wetbag’ for cloth nappies
• a full change of clothes for baby
• a change of top for you (just in case …)
• a swim nappy
• warm clothes (a jumper, socks)
• insulated bottle holder (if bottlefeeding)
• bottles & formula (if bottlefeeding)
• bib(s)
• burp cloth / muslin wrap
• a drink
• snacks (+ spoon and bowl if needed)
• wipes for little hands/faces
• a favourite toy or two
• a blanket to lie on
• a dummy (if required)
• hat
• clothes to cover baby or a light muslin for the pram
• infant sunscreen
• insect repellant
• baby panadol
• teething gel
• teething ring
• plastic bag (for rubbish or soiled clothes)
• wallet
• keys
• mobile phone
• sunglasses / hat
• sunscreen lotion
• bottle of water
• nursing pads (for breastfeeding mums)

I myself am a little over the top about hygiene. As a mum my hands touch a lot of things and when out and about it seems there are germs everywhere. Dettol’s new Healthy Touch moisturising hand sanitiser kills 99.99% of germs without water, and makes the perfect companion to your nappy bag. I love the fuss free factor and it means I can sanitize my hands before feeding and avoid those dreaded public toilets for something simple like washing my hands.

Do you have a hand sanitizer in your bag? What other “Must haves” do you carry?  Spare shirt for mum, paw paw ointment, hair ties, nail clippers??

In honour of busy mums and everything that goes into their nappy bags, Nuffnang are giving away 3x $200 gift vouchers to BabyShopDirect.com.au.

Jump on twitter (I’m on there as @mwwahcomau) and share a pic of the contents of your nappy bag with the hash tag #Dettolnappybag and you can be in the running. There are also 40 samples to giveaway to selected #Dettolnappybag twitter photos too. So get your phone or camera out, get snapping and share your pic!
