Re-purposed towels & linen

To be honest I’d never thought of mending linen or even re-purposing it before. I would simply purchase new stuff and throw the old away without a second thought however I decided to have a look around and see what others do. We are trying to source sustainable living ideas so I’m having fun finding lots of these fantastic projects.  Turns out lots of crafty people out there turn old into new.

When thinking of re-purposing Linen my 1st thought was The Sound Of music where the drapes become new clothes.

The thought of wearing drapes/curtains was a bit off putting at first for me however I soon came across some amazing ideas. (click the images to visit the links)

Repurposed Linen Quilted Pillow Cover- made from repurposed linen with new materials

Layered Ruffles Lace Mini Skirt-made from repurposed linen, various reclaimed laces, unbleached cotton muslin, and Indian silk.

Linen Flowers- I don’t think these ones are from old linen however you could certainly use it to accomplish the same results.

Handmade Baby bibs- made from unused Pillow case

Re-usable bags- Made from Vintage Linen

Bath Animals- Made from old towels

Repurposed Table Runner- made from coffee sack and a bed sheet

Animal Taggie/bath animal- Made from old towels & Ribbon (also see the Elephant and Burp cloth by Monkey see Monkey do)

Handmade Apron- made from re-purposed linen and bits

Bath rag rug- Made from old towels

I LOVED searching for these ideas and I hope you liked this post. Which one is your FAV idea? If you have any other re-purposing/up-cycling ideas please share with us. – Jess x

Another great way of recycling linen and towels is to donate it to your local wildlife care group. Groups like WIRES are always in desperate need for old towels, pillowcases and sheets for houses kangaroo joeys and the like :-)
