Re-Purposed Cot

Recently I’ve been thinking what we will do with the cot once our Dear son#2 (DS2) is in a bigger bed. I see so many on the side of the road for council collection but I was thinking there had to be a better use of it than just rubbish. It’s been used for 3 kids so it’s seen better days but surely it could be of use? This started me on a search and WOW the clever things I found has given me some great ideas. I hope these inspire you also.

We found this fantastic idea at A Little Learning For Two. They used a drop side cot, replaced the base with MDF, painted it with black board paint and added the accessories.

I LOVE this idea and think it would also work for a boy who loves trains (instead of those under bed ones) or even cars (like a little road map with building, etc.

Another gorgeous conversion would have to be this cubby house/shelf re-furb I saw on flicker posted by the*pink*butterfly.

This one has simply had the drop-side removed and been turned upside down.

You could also sew yourself a cubby cover and make a door and window like the ones for over the dining table like the ones from My Play House Adventures.

Another gorgeous desk option not for the little ones is this chic re-design we found Here via Pintrest.

Again drop side removed but this time a glass top added and the cot base used as a shelf below. You wouldn’t know to look at it if you didn’t know it was a cot before.

How about cot to bench seat?

This one has been made with the side rail and doesn’t it look fantastic. Would you have known it was an old cot? I wouldn’t have.

GREAT use of old material for this one wouldn’t you say.

We found a similar one from Cassandra Design.

Great idea for an entrance way where you could use the baskets below for shoes.

Best part is you can sit down when you put your shoes on :D

Cot to Chalk board?

It’s been done… check out this one from Apartment Therapy which we also found on Pintrest.

This idea is great for those with solid cot ends.

A quick pain of some Black board paint and hang them on the wall or you could hinge them together and make an easel like this one.

Here is another Cot to bench we found again on pintrest from Consignment Mommies

This one is even using the cot mattress and sheets! This idea would be great for a porch bench or under a pergola.

Most of these ideas use all but the drop-side so what do you do with that? Well what about these clever ideas.

How about a Laundry drying rack?

Great idea for the bathroom for towels or the laundry for airing/drying clothes.

We found the idea Pintrest from centsationalgirl.com

How about a magazine rack we found via Babble?

This one is so simple you don’t even have to do much else.

You could sew some pockets and attach it to the wall for a kids book shelf too.

Need to sort your craft items out?

How about this idea we found via The Art Of Others

This is the drop side of the cot with a few extra fixtures and it’s a great way to store your craft goods.

Lastly how about using it in the garden?

This is a trellis for the garden made out of the side rails of a crib.

You could also use the sides as a small fence perhaps?

This is box title
