Making a spectacle of eyewear prices | Competition

Let’s face it, glasses can be pretty expensive and the process can be tedious especially when it’s for the children. I recently had to purchase glasses for my 7 yr old and after 4 attempts at the test we finally had the issue resolved, had the lense prescription details and glasses purchased but not after a LONG process of trying on, looking at different colours, styles and shapes, etc. My 7yr old was tired, bored and upset and I’m so glad it wasn’t a regular process. As a mum having the choice of coming home looking around “virtually” trying on some frames rather than standing in a store sounds much more like me (and I’m sure my son would have enjoy the experience more).

A revolution is happening in the eye wear industry with website ClearlyContacts.com.au taking on expensive optometrists by offering prescription glasses at massively discounted prices – catch free.

Price inflation in the optometry industry has been rife until now with optometrists adding up to 300per cent on the price of glasses. Many perceive glasses to be an expensive product but in fact they can be produced at a very affordable cost to the optical retailer.

“We believe everyone should be able to afford high quality, stylish glasses. Traditional optical retail stores charge customers extremely high prices to generate big profits – our online retail model enables us to cut expenses and pass on major savings to the customer. I believe the time is right for people to switch to a smarter, more convenient method of buying their glasses, which is what ClearlyContacts.com.au offers,” Mr Hardy says.

Convenience is a huge draw for the many Australians who have already discovered ClearlyContacts.com.au, with rapid delivery on every sale and free returns up to 365 days after purchase. If that is not enough the website stocks nearly 2000 frames including designer names such as DKNY, Gucci and Guess.

Mr Hardy goes on, “Our frames start from $38 to $98 with lenses included; the same frames at an optometrist would cost between $200 and $350 with no lenses. We stock thousands of brand names and manufacture the lenses in one of the world’s most technologically advanced eyeglass laboratories.”

ClearlyContacts.com.au’s distribution centre in Sydney has seen a steady increase in sales as more and more Australians make the switch to buying online. Making it as easy as possible for their customers, ClearlyContacts.com.au has also pioneered a number of online tools such as their Virtual

Mirror which allows customers to upload pictures of themselves and match glasses to their face shape to see what they would look like wearing their choice. A second tool is their online PD Ruler which measures customers’ pupillary distance – the distance between their pupils – which is a required measurement when fitting glasses.

A ClearlyContacts E-voucher would be great as my last sales assistant convinced me to get a very 'modern' pair of glasses which has led to my housemates nicknaming me 'myrtle'. As much as I've mastered the art of squinting instead of using glasses it would be nice not to.

I haven't worn contacts since I was in high school and sometimes I just wish I could get a cheap pair of glamorous sunnies insted of having to get a super cheap pair so I can afford the lenses!

I could use a clearlycontacts evoucher because I hate going to the opticians. I try on pair after pair and then get some sales lady saying oh yes they look lovely, when in fact they look hideous. I would love to upload a pic and decide for myself :)
